Job Description
Job Purpose:
The role of the Assistant Performance Coach is to aid the in-season sports performance staff at the Chicago White Sox and minor league affiliates. This support will be in a multitude of areas, based on the candidate's skill set, and their projected career development pathway within professional baseball. Areas of focus will revolve around performance assessments, workload monitoring, data collection, on-floor coaching, and other areas of need.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Scheduling and execution of athlete assessments, ongoing in-season athlete monitoring, and data collection for Sports Performance, Sports Science and other baseball initiatives.
• Collaboration with the Sports Science department to prepare and distribute player reports including:
• Facilitation of meetings with sports performance staff and players to discuss player progress on an ongoing basis.
• Support and integration of player plans throughout the championship season.
• Preparation of reports for Applied Sports Science Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Player Development leadership and front office staff.
• Assistance in the execution of organization-wide research studies or programs at the affiliate level
• Performance of administrative duties for sports performance and field staff including player travel, housing, per diem, MLB and baseball operations paperwork, and other team expenses.
• Assistance with staff game coverage on an as needed basis to complete maintenance routines (including range of motion and recovery exercises) during game times.
• Assistance with affiliate strength and conditioning staff on player warmups, weightlifting sessions, and conditioning sessions.
• Assistance with on-field pre-game work, including:
• On-field pre-game support for coaching staff (cages, BP, machines, etc.)
• Technology and other field setup
• Assistance with video and/or pitch tracking personnel on an as-needed basis, including game preparation and production of advance scouting documents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Independent judgment and ability to multitask is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to work long, flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• Must be trustworthy and comfortable with managing sensitive information.
• High level of interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate with wide range of departments, seniority levels and personalities.
• Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience, Education and Licensure:
• BA/BS in Exercise Science or related field required
• NSCA CSCS required
• Master's degree preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
