Assist the Coordinator with growing and administering a prolific Mental Performance program for Tiger minor league players and staff. Provide Mental Performance instruction and counseling from foundational to mid-tier components of the Detroit Tigers minor league system. Assist with various departmental projects and effectively collaborate with all performance disciplines of Player Development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and execute effective mental enhancement instruction to players in formal and informal settings. Work with the Mental Performance Coordinator to adjust curriculum where warranted. Create content, as needed.
• Effectively collaborate with the Mental Performance Coordinator to address significant and/or pressing needs. Serve as the de facto Coordinator in particular areas of need.
• Assume ownership of assigned specialized areas (e.g. camps, coach and staff development, processes & systems enhancement, budgeting).
• Effectively handle urgent, unexpected player-care needs, without losing efficacy on broader job responsibilities.
• Grow strong, trusting relationships with all players in areas of responsibility and provide effective solutions. Initiate and maintain relationships when located in other geographic regions. Check in with and provide availability for player needs outside of normal business hours.
• Assess for gaps within the mental performance department and broader Tiger culture, design and initiate solutions, overcome obstacles, and see through to completion.
• Communicate pertinent matters with other members of mental performance and player development staff on a daily basis.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with coaches, staff, and baseball operations groups.
• Intentionally allocate time and energy to understanding the complexities of the professional baseball environment and Tiger culture.
• Create a positive sum environment on a daily basis. Utilize initiative and ownership to be the change that is required. Be an energy provider to everyone encountered. Be a driving force in creating a player-friendly and psychologically safe environment for Tiger players and staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Master's degree in Sport Psychology or highly similar field.
• 3-5 years providing mental performance instruction to elite level performers.
• Proven track record of providing effective group instruction and 1-on-1 counseling.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to build strong relationships with players, coaches, and staff across departments.
• Must be able to demonstrate skills requisite for the position.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Previous experience in a mental performance leadership role.
• Previous experience in professional or collegiate baseball.
• Certified Mental Performance Coach (CMPC) or progressing toward.
• Fluent in Spanish.
Working Conditions:
• Will be required to work outside in variable weather, including both hot and cold temperatures.
• May be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours including providing availability to players outside of normal working hours.
• Significant travel will occur across different periods throughout the calendar year (including international).
• Will work primarily out of Lakeland (FL) facility and require relocation.
• Physical demands include standing and sitting for prolonged periods, as well as walking considerable distances.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
