Job Summary/Description:
If you love forecasting and storm chasing then KSWO is the place for you! We are looking for a personable and passionate Meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team. We are located in Southwest Oklahoma where the weather can change by the minute. Our meteorologists get real hands-on experience forecasting everything from severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to flooding, snow, and ice storms. The right candidate must have advanced forecasting skills and the ability to handle severe weather situations. Duties include producing accurate and viewer-focused forecasts and content for broadcast, digital platforms, and all forms of social media.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Take ownership and execute our First Alert Weather brand
- Fluent in the latest weather technology
- Deliver accurate forecasts in an engaging and impactful manner for multiple platforms
- Write and update detailed web stories
- Ensure all weather content leads the market and meets KSWO's standards for integrity and production value
- Create engaging social media content around the weather
- Report live during severe weather events
- Represent the station at community and station-sponsored public events
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or equivalency
- Prior on-air meteorology experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and work well with a diverse station staff
- You must be willing to work flexible shifts and be on call when necessary
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Excellent presentation skills, judgment, and ethics
- Understanding of digital/social media platforms and strategy
- Produce content with urgency and immediacy
- Integrity, accountability, teamwork
