Job Description
The PBS KIDS Distribution team is responsible for the strategy, scheduling, and delivery of PBS KIDS content to the National Program Service (NPS) channel (linear), the PBS KIDS 24/7 Channel (linear), free video-on-demand (FVOD) and livestream services on the PBS KIDS Video App for web, mobile, and connected TV streaming devices, and the PBS KIDS YouTube channel. This team also supports the scheduling and distribution of PBS KIDS podcasts via PRX/Dovetail.
The Senior Associate, Streaming Media supports the scheduling, publishing, and curation of content on the PBS KIDS YouTube channel and the PBS KIDS Video streaming platforms (web, mobile, and connected TVs) and PRX/Dovetail. In the role, the person will implement workflows to support FVOD content distribution across platforms, identify and align with YouTube Kids content trends and seasonal events, partner with producers to strategically develop seasonal, character-driven, or educational clip collections, and work with various internal teams (ex: Content, Marketing, Content Packaging, Creative Production and Design, Station Relations, etc.) to operationalize, schedule, and publish/deliver current series and original content. This role also ensures that content across platforms maintains qualities that aid in accessibility for our audiences (ex: English/Spanish captioning, Descriptive Audio and ASL, etc.)
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in managing the PBS KIDS FVOD content library by liasing across Content Packaging, Media Operations, KIDS Content, KIDS Marketing, and KIDS Creative Production teams to request, upload, and schedule assets in our content management systems.
• Coordinate with PBS KIDS Distribution team members, along with Content, Marketing & Brand Engagement, and Creative Production teams to execute series launches and seasonal promotional priorities.
• Coordinate with producers and internal PBS KIDS teams to collect and facilitate the edit and upload of clip for PBS KIDS video streaming platforms.
• Assist in quality assurance for PBS KIDS Video streaming content and products through testing and regular quality control scans of the Video app across multiple platforms (web, mobile: iOS / Android, and connected TVs.)
• Assist in managing the PBS KIDS YouTube channel by uploading content and metadata, maintaining calendars and communication with external partners, producing compilations, vertical videos and other YouTube-first content, and helping to create and schedule livestreams.
• Stay on top of YouTube content and search trends, YouTube Kids' seasonal events, and help PBS KIDS quickly pivot its YouTube strategy as needed.
• Strategize as part of the PBS KIDS Distribution team, to develop unique, experimental, and innovative video and content formats, and digital distribution methods that support the PBS KIDS mission to deliver high-quality, fun, educational content to viewers across the US and its territories.
• Stay up to date on streaming technologies and children's content trends, and actively collaborate in cross-departmental brainstorms.
• Ensure scheduling documentation is accurate, update as required, and raise potential issues, if needed. Help develop and support the creation and maintenance of PBS KIDS product and producer documentation.
• Other projects as assigned.
Requirements for success:
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external partners at all levels.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively.
• Two or more years of experience in children's media, digital content management, or content moderation; a strong interest in these areas is essential.
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Digital Media, Educational Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience in digital content management or production.
• Experience in early childhood education/development is a plus.
• Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
• Basic understanding of accessibility requirements and methods for distributing content across digital platforms.
• Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), digital distribution platforms, and ticketing systems. Willingness to engage regularly with our Video app and assist in troubleshooting as needed.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop) or similar design programs.
• Strong curiosity about the convergence of media across television, web, mobile, and other digital platforms, and/or interest in how young children consume and interact with media.
• Eagerness to stay on top of trends and share insights with the team and across departments.
• Resourceful, solution-oriented, and proactive with a can-do attitude.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to plan, problem-solve, and prioritize multiple tasks, often under tight deadlines. High initiative and ability to guide projects to completion.
• Project management experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with YouTube Studio or channel management is a plus but not required.
• Basic proficiency in Spanish (reading/comprehension) is a bonus but not required.
• Copywriting and SEO experience are strongly preferred but not required.
